Bryan MacDonald

Biography

Dr. Bryan MacDonald received a B.Eng. in Aeronautical Engineering in 1994 and an M.Sc. in Aerospace Structures and Materials in 1995 from the University of Limerick. He worked as a Technical Trainer in Ericsson Systems Expertise from 1995 to 1996. He then worked as a Mechanical Engineer in Dublin Bus from 1996 to 1997. He was appointed as a Lecturer in Mechanical Engineering at Dublin City University in 1997. He was awarded a Ph.D. in non-linear finite element analysis from Dublin City University in 2000. In 2006 he was promoted to Senior Lecturer in Mechanical Engineering at Dublin City University.

Research Expertise

Bryan’s research interests include: Design and analysis of orthopaedic and cardiovascular medical devices, Computational modelling of the in-service behaviour of implantable medical devices, Medical applications of magnesium based alloys, Design of bio-absorbable medical devices and implants, Computational modelling of complex metal forming operations, and Implementing Artificial Intelligence techniques in the finite element analysis process. He is a Chartered Engineer with the Institute of Engineers Ireland and lectures modules in DCU in Engineering Mathematics and Finite Element Analysis.
